I am so excited to introduce Nici Claymon to you all! Nici is a super kick ass woman who I actually met at the dog park. Her and her dog Percy Banks have become quick friends of Scout and I. Along with being a super human being she is a massage therapist right in our Fremont hood in NE PDX! Nici is an incredible healer and will no doubt make you feel very taken care of. Nici graduated from East-West Healing Arts Institute in 2002. She trained in Tui-Na, Acupressure, Deep Tissue, Swedish and stretching techniques. She is very skilled with neck, back and hip issues. As a former collegiate and current athlete of soccer and basketball, who has recovered from injuries herself she really understands the techniques and positive benefits of massage therapy. She is excited to share her knowledge and abilities with Honest Training.
How did you get into massage? What inspired you to be a lmt?
I had a massage one day from someone that kinda blew me away. It was techniques I had never felt before. I asked where she went to school and she said “It is a new school that has opened studying Tui Na, Tai chi, and Acupressure points.” I had no idea what any of that was at that time but it all sounded inspiring, so I became an LMT.
At that point in my life I liked traveling a whole bunch. I thought to myself well, my hands are attached to me and they go anywhere I go so I am going to put some knowledge into my hands. With skills that I could have with me at all times, it came in very handy for making money, helping someone out with anything from sea sickness to a pulled muscle and even trading for food, shelter or a didjeridoo. So while traveling, having this skill in my hands allowed me to have longer more fulfilling adventures. This eventually led to me back to owning my own healing center here in Portland. While that was a fun and challenging avenue, it ultimately led me back to wanting to chill out and enjoy life more.
How long have you lived in PDX? What is your favorite part of living in Portland, OR?
I have been in PDX since 2003. My favorite part of living here is all the new big buildings and traffic. Just kidding:) For real….I like that so many different kinds of nature are close by. I like that people like to make the front of their yards whimsical, native and edible. I like that you might see some bearded person dressed up in a pink dress riding a unicycle, with a boom box attached playing a song everyone would want to dance too. But most importantly, I feel that overall everyone here is kind and I feel grateful to live in such a special place.
What is your favorite way to workout/train/move?
Why is working out so important to you?
The endorphins and having something healthy to do with friends.
What 1 food and 1 beverage could you not live without?
A smoothie… It is both in one!!!
What is something that most people don’t know about you?
I will play the 2 truths and a lie and you can decide:
– I jumped out of a plane.
– I was a sheep herder.
– I love lunges.
