New Lady Business on the Block… Fate Beauty Society

It’s time to celebrate another awesome hard working lady in our community!  Meet Bree Bush.  I want to spotlight Bree because she is AWESOME and has just moved her biz to the Fremont neighborhood (more deets below).  I feel so passionate about helping out our lady biz owners so I am telling you now, if you need a new hairdresser/make-up artist… men and/or women, go to Fate Beauty Society!  These guys rock!  I have been seeing Paige Ashcroft (one of the owners of Fate) for years and LOVE everything she does!

Here’s some ore about Bree Bush and Fate Beauty…

Tell us a little bit about yourself (what you do? What is your business or the business you work for/with?)

Hi! I’m Bree. I’m a dog mom to Harriette (who I might be mildly obsessed with), partner to a data nerd, I’m a hairstylist, small business owner, podcast addict, music lover, and adventure seeker. I am part of the awesome team at Fate Beauty Society, a brand new collaborative salon space bringing together two stylists, two estheticians (facials and waxing), and a team of makeup artists/event stylers. We are new to the neighborhood and so excited to start building our family with this awesome Beaumont community! The salon space is the brainchild of Paige Ashcroft and Cassandra Kennedy, and I was so lucky to be invited to be part of the team. It’s been a long, fun project of designing, building, and branding the space and we’re excited to share it with all of you. Paige and I have been friends for three years and I couldn’t be happier getting to work alongside one of my best friends every day. I find so much satisfaction being able to be my own girl boss, taking on the responsibility/challenges of having my own business, and the freedom that comes along with it all.

Working with likeminded women is so empowering; historically the beauty industry has been run by men, owning all the major hairdressing companies. So being a female and owning my business that serves women and doing it alongside other girl bosses is an amazing and empowering experience. Our space really stands for female empowerment and the education of women and their hair needs (plus, our male supporters!). Every day we strive to provide our clients with a fun, friendly atmosphere for our clients.

Why do you love doing what you do?

I have been hairdressing since 2005 and couldn’t have picked a better career path. I love the challenge every new head of hair brings. Being able to travel and constantly educated myself is a fun perk too! ☺ I’ve been fortunate to travel internationally to London, Spain, Italy and across the US from New York to Los Angeles and beyond. I also constantly inspired by the transformation process. Being able to make people feel good about themselves every day is pretty incredible. It’s my favorite when people come in feeling low and leave with that ear to ear smile and can’t stop checking themselves out in the mirror. Those days are my favorite!

How long have you lived in PDX? What is your favorite part of living in Portland?

I am a transplant from Arizona and have been living in Portland for almost 4 years and I love it. My mom is originally from Portland, so I grew up spending all my winter and summer breaks here and fell in love. It’s been really fun getting to spend more time with my grandparents and the rest of my family in the PNW. My favorite part about living in Portland is hard to narrow down but, I’d say the community aspect. Not a day goes by that I don’t feel so lucky to be here. Portland has allowed me to live the life I always dreamed. It’s the little things like, farmers markets; in summer, picking my own produce at farms; being able to walk everywhere; spend my weekends biking; I love how you don’t have to leave town to enjoy the nature and THERE’S SO MUCH GREEN! I love having access to the beach and the mountains all within a day. So pretty much, I love Portland for all the reasons everyone does. I feel like I finally found a place that fits me so perfectly.

What is your favorite way to workout/train/move?

I am very new to Honest and excited just to be on a “plan”. I prefer group fitness. I like the energy that groups bring. I have zero self-motivation to push myself at the gym without a trainer. If it were up to me I’d sit on the elliptical for 10 min watch some Netflix and peace out! ☺ I love being a part of Honest and getting to work with Paisley. I enjoy all the options within our workouts where we can modify the intensity and find what works for us (especially newbies like me).

Why is working out so important to you?

I want to feel good. I find ways to help strengthen my mind and I like to feel strong physically. I also love the energy working out gives me. Waking up early and setting the intention for my day or week is very important to me. I find with clear goals and expectations anything is possible!

What 1 food and 1 beverage could you not live without?

Coffee. I live for coffee. I drink it morning, noon, and night and enjoy it all ways! Our coffee set up at home is hardcore–french press, chemex, “regular” coffee pot, cold brew… we got it all. Except an espresso maker, hmmmmm.

What is your current self-care routine, and why is it important to you?

Working out!! This has had a huge impact on me physically feeling good and it’s silly that I forgot how much of an impact being fit has on your daily routine. Also getting my nails done. When we opened the new salon, one thing that I really committed to was getting my nails done regularly. I know it seems silly but it is one of those things that makes me really happy. I believe in self-care and its importance no matter how silly the things seem!

Favorite restaurant in Portland?

Ugh! Really!? That’s hard! I have so many…. Well, pizza is by far my most favorite food and it happens to be PIZZA WEEK!!!! So, pretty much I’m in heaven. My top pizza joints in Portland would be Dove Vivi and Lovely Fifty Fifty. Non pizza restaurant (which is how everything else is classified) would be Ned Ludd. I love that they work with Side Yards Farms which is a rad female owned and operated farm here in NE. The menu changes and the vibe in there is so eclectic and chill!

What is something that most people don’t know about you?

Well, other than Paisley who I told today… I was on a competitive jump rope team all of elementary and Jr high. So silly!!
