It’s time for another blog about one of my favorite lady bosses! Mel Hignell is an all-star client – a hard worker and an awesome heckler. Thank you Mel for being such an amazing client, snark and all. We all LOVE having you around!
|Tell us a little bit about yourself: My name is Mel, and I am the owner of a design & management firm called White Spider. We are based in Portland and have divisions in Bend and New Orleans, too.
How long have you lived in PDX? What is your favorite part of living in Portland, OR? I moved from California to Oregon in 1994, which I’m pretty sure means I can say the word ‘California’ without risk of tomatoes being thrown at me. My favorite part of this city is the open-mindedness of the residents, and how vehemently we support and fight for what we believe is right.
What is your favorite way to workout/train/move? I was an athlete until getting injured some years ago, and I have been searching for a trainer/gym that would take my injuries into consideration while still offering a difficult and fun workout. I found that in Honest Training, so to answer your question, whatever workout is being offered that day. Oh, and I love walking my four dogs….yes, four.
Why is working out so important to you? Because I’m vain and I want to live a long time.
What 1 food and 1 beverage could you not live without? Cheese and wine. I mean, is there even another answer?
What is your current self-care routine, and why is it important to you? My training at Honest, my relationship with my partner, my dinners with my daughter and my time with my dogs are my current self-care routine. The older I get the more I realize self-care is all about balancing work with the people/things you love the most. I tend to be a work-a-holic, so I’m trying to find that balance, to ensure I’m caring for myself and what I love, too.
What is something that most people don’t know about you? I was born in Mexico and have Mexican citizenship.
