Here’s a little more about this amazing woman/ small business owner…
I moved to Portland in 1993 to attend Naturopathic Medical school (NUNM) and never left! My favorite part about living in Portland? It is too hard to narrow it down to one thing. I have lived on the east coast and the west coast and, believe it or not, I think Portland has the best weather of anywhere I have lived. All that rain pays off with lushness and beauty that is unsurpassed. I also love Portland neighborhoods – like this one – that feel like a small village yet are a part of an awesome city with lots happening.
I injured my back in a college dance class. It turned into chronic pain which impacted every choice I made from then on. In my mid-twenties I stumbled upon yoga and meditation and discovered that both helped relieve my chronic pain. I have stayed with it because yoga is so adaptive that it can be current to you and your state each and every day. So as I change, my yoga changes with me.
Ha! Well my very favorite way to move is in the ocean with the fish and sea turtles. On land, I love moving in an improvisational way – where I move the way my body is lead to move. I love that movement classes, running, biking, swimming, hiking all develop and support different aspects of being in my body and supporting my health and enjoyment of life.
I love how working out will teach you so much about yourself. It can reveal to you capacity that you didn’t know you had and it can show you how you move through the world and that there are other options if you choose.
At the moment I would say avocado and my homemade green drink but there are times when I would definitely say chocolate and coffee 🙂
My body so clearly does better with movement than without. So for me it is so important to have movement built into my daily life like teaching classes and walking or riding my bike to work. That is my foundation. Having those pieces in place means that even when I get busy and other aspects of self care fall by the wayside – there is still this foundation in place that keeps things flowing.
Definitely Luminance and all that I do there! Other than that – my garden.
My first career was in theater. I was a dancer, singer & actress. In my 20’s I worked in theater in San Francisco, on a European Tour, and Washington DC.
