How long have you lived in PDX? What is your favorite part of living in Portland, OR?
I have lived in Portland for 20 years. Moved to Portland solo fresh out of college. My favorite part of living in Portland is the proximity to the mountains, waterfalls, and ocean, as well as the great food!
What is your favorite way to workout/train/move?
For years I was a runner. It has become more of a cross training hobby for me now. After over training and a few injuries, I realized it was time for some strength training and learning to move my body in different ways. That has lead me into the Crossfit world. I love the challenge Crossfit brings me. There is always a new skill to learn and gains to be made. It drives me to become stronger both mentally and physically.
Why did you get into the fitness industry?
My love of running brought me into the fitness industry. I started running for a mental outlet and to try and take some extra baby weight off. It has become so much more for me. My confidence sky rocketed and I wanted more physical challenges and variety in my fitness routine. My passion turned into something I wanted to share with others. Helping people make positive life style changes, build confidence and find a community that is like minded, is one of the most rewarding things about my job. My formal education is in public communication and theatre, both skills that have helped me transition into the fitness industry.
Why is working out so important to you?
Working out to me is not only about staying physically active and in shape, but is about mental sanity. I don’t work out to maintain my current fitness level, I workout to learn new skills, try new things and push myself physically and mentally. This plays into other aspects of my life as well.
What 1 food and 1 beverage could you not live without?
I would really struggle in a world without tacos and coffee!
What is your current self-care routine, and why is it important to you?
Currently, I am working on improving my sleep habits. I want this to be a bigger priority in my life, as it makes the rest of my day so much better with proper sleep. When I combine good sleep with my training routine, I feel like a champ! It allows me to focus my mind and connect it with my body in the gym. The results are feeling stronger and more confident in my ability to learn new skills in the fitness world.
What is your biggest outlet for your creative expression?
Programming workouts for my classes fuels my creativity and I teach theatre for Oregon Children’s Theatre. That is a major outlet of creativity for me!
What is something that most people don’t know about you?
I like to put mustard on my scrambled eggs.
