  1. What’s your favorite type of work-out?

Any workout that gives me a sense of accomplishment. I especially like it if it is outdoors or if I sweated buckets. I like to sweat.

  1. How do you stay motivated to keep a healthy routine?

My motivation is my kids and my future self. I’m an older dad and I want to be active and strong as my kids age and once they old enough to fend for themselves I want to be able to still live an active life.

  1. How long have you lived in Portland? Where else have you lived?

Originally from Pietermaritzburg in South Africa. Moved to the states when I was 16 and lived in the redwoods of Northern California before moving to Portland in 2000.

  1. What is your creative outlet?

Gardening. I love having a blank canvas and making the vision come to life. I have a community plot at the Kennedy school gardens and grow tons of veggies from April through to November. I also am landscaping at home now. I was an art major in undergrad but have little time to draw and paint now – to many other important things going on.

  1. Is there a food & drink you couldn’t live without?

Can’t live without salt and water. I love all foods. I’ve worked around food and with people and their foods and diets and all sorts over the years. I can pretty much give up anything for an extended period of time if I want. I naturally have a wicked sweet tooth (chocolate) so I do have to temper that.

  1. What’s your favorite kind of music for working out? Or otherwise?

I have eclectic choices for music but for workouts I like hard fast loud rock with a metal flavor.

  1. What is your idea of the perfect day-off?

I would probably go for a walk or leisurely bike ride, hang at a coffee shop for a little, listen to a Podcast, do some reading and garden in the sun. If it is a day off with the family then I want it to be outdoors by a river on a hot day. Swimming and relaxing in the sun.

Find out results from the surveys we completed last week.
