“A leader takes people where they want to go. A great leader takes people where they don’t necessarily want to go, but ought to be.” – Rosalyn Carter
Making the choice to start working out at a new studio can be very intimidating. You aren’t quite sure what you’re in for, you don’t know anyone yet and participating in group or one-on-one personal training can make you feel pretty vulnerable. You need all the support and guidance you can get.
That’s what makes Honest Small Group Training so awesome…it’s incredible trainers! At Honest, beyond designing kick-ass, well-rounded, full-body workouts, the trainers are always focused on making sure their clients are informed, comfortable and fully supported. When you work out here you become part of the Honest community and build lasting friendships.
In honor of the Honest community and it’s wonderful trainers, each month we take some time to get to know one of the trainers a little better. This June we are focusing on the fabulous and always entertaining Spinn Instructor Keith Lewis!
Keith is a Certified Schwinn Spin Instructor and is currently working on additional certifications. He leads Honest’s seasonal “Run Club” and has participated in multiple half marathons and 10k relays. He also plans, decorates and hosts the Honest Spinn Parties held every month. If you like costumes, beer, prizes, great music and an awesome workout you should attend the next one! (I never miss them!)
Here are a few more wonderful things about Keith!
What made you want to become a trainer?
Honestly, Paisley is just really good at convincing me to try new things. I actually hated my first spin class but I continued attending classes anyway and learned to love it! Paisley encouraged me to get certified since I have such a winning personality, and love of music…and here I am!
What is your training philosophy?
I think it’s great to try new things and stretch your limits. When attending my class, I say add that extra resistance! If it’s too hard you can always back it off, but you’ll never know if you don’t try. Sometimes people surprise themselves. So instead of giving me that deep eye-roll, just do it, and adapt as you need. Be HONEST with yourself. Get what I did there?
What are your favorite fitness activities?
I love spinn of course. Riding my bike, or running in the great outdoors, and I actually really enjoy wall-ball and tread push…there must be something wrong with me!
What are some interesting facts about you?
I have Crohn’s Disease. I was diagnosed at age 13 and have had about 15″ of my intestinal track in multiple places removed through 3 separate abdominal surgeries. I had never been an active person as my case was quite severe. I’m finally on an amazing medication that works for me, but I truly believe that what has really helped keep my Crohn’s at bay is exercise! I’ve never moved my body so much in my life as I have in the past 2-3 years since I’ve been a member and a trainer at Honest. I truly believe that I am living my life to the fullest! <—–Talk about inspiring!
I’m also a commercial Interior Designer. I’ve had the privilege of working on all kinds of projects ranging from corporate offices, restaurants, hotels, medical clinics, surgery centers, as well as office spaces for Governor Kate Brown and Oregon Senator Jeff Merkley.
I used to trick hula-hoop in the back of a bar for fun. Sometimes without a shirt 😉
