Ali Matt: Our New Instructor of Yoga & Spin!

I have wanted to work with Ali Matt a LONG TIME.  She is a wiz at business and a fun kickass instructor as well.  Ali teaches yoga all over the city and does workshops in addition to retreats (HOW FUN IS THAT?).  Ali is teaching a spin/yoga class THIS FRIDAY at 8am!  45m of spin, 15m of yoga… sign up now right HERE!

Here’s a little bit about Ali…

How long have you lived in PDX? What is your favorite part of living in Portland, OR?

I’ve lived in Portland for 12 years. Favorite part of this city is the accessibility to the ocean and mountains (having moved from Nebraska). The food is a highlight as well.

What is your favorite way to workout/train/move?  

Yoga is a daily practice for me. I also love trail running and biking.

What got you into fitness as well as yoga?

For as long as I can remember, fitness has been part of my life. I amped up my running game when I got a highly energetic puppy. No better way to exercise a dog, than to get some exercise yourself. I started practicing yoga when I moved to Portland. It offered stress relief but also balanced out my fitness routine at the time. I began to notice that I had less aches and pains in other forms of fitness when I was practicing yoga regularly.

Why is working out so important to you?

Working out it so important for many reasons; it helps me feel embodied, gaining a better understand of my physical body and its potential. It also helps in day-to-day activities, to eliminate pain and increase energy.

What 1 food and 1 beverage could you not live without?

Avocados. Although they are saying that millennials can’t buy a house if they keep eating avocado toast, so I may need to reconsider that 😉 Favorite beverage is coffee.

What is your current self-care routine, and why is it important to you?

The most important pieces of my self-care routine is to make time to practice yoga or meditation daily, to get regular bodywork and to be outside at least 30 minutes a day. These three things help me feel my best, both physically and mentally.
